I Watched Transformers Siege....

(Published Sep 4, 2020)

Ok, we're doing this:

After a long day and dealing with a psychotic dog murderer, I finally can get home and watch something I should have already watched, but, alas, life is hectic.

That's right, I am talking about the Dinobot in the room, "Transformers: Siege."

This is a Netflix series made by the same people who created the "War for Cybertron" and "Fall of Cybertron" videogames. Incredible games, I must add.

Given the success of the games us Transformers fans were in high hopes that this would be a good series. But, alas, woefully we have been betrayed once more by Hasbro. Just like with so many Transformers shows they ignore what makes Transformers good to instead give us... Slag.

Unlike the comics of the Transformers franchise, that are drenched in heroic actions, intense battles, harrowing tales, and inconsolable deaths, many of the TV shows have been wrung out of these desired ingredients to just be a damp, cold rag that removes some of your itch, but doesn't give you a full bath on the Transformers lore and adventure.

Let me elucidate:

This first season, consisting of 6 episodes, was riddled with some... animation that had much to desire. It's not the worst, far be it. No, but some animation errors are too erroneous to ignore. Stack them upon each other and the collapse of the animation tower leaves you with the dust of its mistakes blinding you, making it hard to see what else is happening.

One example is when Jetfire lands, the thud of his peds hitting the ground is delayed. Clearly, he landed as evidence of how his legs bend, and his hips buckle catching his mass (nicer way of putting it), but then the thud sounded later and was... Far too quiet for someone of his stature.

The Seekers all fly far too slow, when we know for a fact they can go over Mach 3 ("Megatron Origin #2), and their delay in movements is not accurate when these are elite warriors.

Just all the movements, actions, is so slow...

And going off that point we move to the most vexing part of this entire project: The voice acting.

None of the characters have voices that match them. Every voice actor is not skilled. They do not possess the acting acumen to create realistic emotions, voice changes, nor just... Sounding like that's their real voice. Every voice sounds like it's forced and someone making that voice. It doesn't sound natural.

And they talk so SLOW. Ugh, half the show is just waiting for them to say the next word! It's beyond exaggerating and I couldn't get into the story because of it. And several people just so did not fit the voice given to them.

This is being paid for by Netflix. They have the money to hire better, skilled, and experienced voice actors. Netflix is NOT poor.

The storyline is... Meh. The part that is most annoying is this is clearly supposed to be G1, with the designs, much of the history, etc., but they make the weirdest character changes and backstories... Like, if it was an entirely different universe, like TF: Animated, Armada, Bayformers, etc. I get it. But for them to try and take G1 and make such strange changes...

Like, they introduce Ratchet as an engineer, not a doctor. Red Alert is a doctor, Jetfire/Skyfire is the leader of the Seekers, Impactor is a Decepticon....

It's just... Weird and why do that? And they have the colonies, but like... Just the way it's done is so different and not very G1-ish.

Then don't get me started on everyone having Kylie Jenner lips! I could feel Megatron sucking out my soul with his alone... *shudders*

I have to give it a 3/10 for season 1. Not sorry.

Will I continue to watch? As a loyal gay robot fan I must to ensure I know what is happening. But will I enjoy it? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......
